EN16890:2017 – New European Standard for Cot Mattresses Safety Requirements & Test Methods

This is the new safety standard to be met by baby mattress manufacturers who intend to sell into the Irish, UK and European Union markets and replaces BS 1877. All EU countries and UK must adopt this new standard.

The important aspects of this new testing are to check for mattress firmness, mattress structural integrity, entrapment hazards, suffocation hazards, chemical hazards EN 71-3:2013, correct & safe markings, packaging and instructions, thermal requirements i.e. fire resistance EN 597-1:2015 & EN 71-2:2011 + A1:2014, clause 5.4
